Tell us a bit about your career in Education and Care (how many years, your qualifications, your aspirations)?
I have spent 10 years in childcare, meeting many children and families, leaving a bit of my heart with each and everyone one of them. I hold my diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and am always continuing to improve my knowledge and further develop my learning. My biggest aspiration working in childcare is to create warm, creative and loving environments and spaces for families and children to come and feel supported and connected to their community, peers and educators.
What led you to want to work with children?
I have always been surrounded by children, and have a very large family, being 1 of 5, and always pictured my future full of children, much the same as I had grown up. My older sister also worked in childcare when I was still in high school and would come home and share stories about the children and I always looked up to my sister so following in her footsteps was another big drawn to working in childcare too.
What keeps you here?
The little things keep me in childcare. Smiles first thing in the morning, sitting in the sand pit talking, helping put shoes and hats on to go outside, holding hands while children learn to walk, one on one time giving babies their bottles. All those special little moments that are unique to working in childcare.
What do you love best about working with children?
I love working in childcare because it’s unlike any other job, every day is different, it allows me to be creative and spontaneous, as well as purposeful and planned. It is a rewarding career that allows me to engage with so many different people and children from all walks of life, expanding my knowledge of the world.
When did you start working at Sonas, and what is it that you love most about working with your team?
I started working for Sonas in January of 2019, I love the Sonas approach to educating children, allowing them to make choices in their environments and find their own rhythm and routine by getting given those options. I also love being outside and in nature, so our open-door policy allows me to be outdoors in the sun and rain, playing in the sandpit, walking on the grass and breathing in the fresh air. I love working in a team, because it allows me to share my knowledge and skills, while learning from those around me.
What do you think are the best attributes that you bring to your role?
I believe one of my biggest attributes is my creativity when setting up purposeful learning environments and spaces and decorating areas to make them inviting and appealing. I also think I’m a people person and enjoy meeting new people and networking with my peers, allowing me to make connections with a wide range of people.
Name three words that you describe you:
Welcoming. Friendly. Adventurous.
What’s a typical day like for you?
My day usually starts with me watching my favourite creators new YouTube videos, followed by at least two coffees and a hot shower. I arrive at work and spend my morning greeting parents, cuddling the arriving children and creating experiences that will interest and engage my children throughout the day. Once work is done, I head home or to my parents or big sisters house for dinner. Before bedtime I read a few chapters of whatever book I am reading that day or watch some episodes of my current favourite show.
What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
If I’m not on an adventure in another country, I am happiest being outside. In summer you’ll find me at the beach or by the pool, because I love the water and swimming. In winter my family spends a lot of weekends in Jarrahdale quad biking, riding through the mud and puddles with my nieces and nephews.
Finish this sentence… On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me…
Being woken up by my little sister at my dad’s house, asking me “what are we doing today?” OR waking up at my house and pottering around, getting ready for my week, before heading to my mum’s house for family dinner.

Sonas Early Learning & Care is a family owned, child focused & family orientated childcare centre.
Our team of qualified and caring educators will use their knowledge and experience to create challenging, inspiring and exciting play and learning opportunities for all children.
The team will build genuine and purposeful relationships with children and their families and promote a safe, secure environment that children easily settle into.
The Sonas Atwell childcare centre is a new and purpose built facility.
We have designed the centre so all play spaces lead out onto a large nature based outdoor area. This provides unlimited opportunities for your child to venture outdoors exploring and discovering new things from their environment every day.
Each play space provides areas for creativity, experimentation and imagination as well as an opportunity for children to rest and relax.
Through collaboration and scaffolding each child is able to build on the knowledge they already possess. They will use their senses to explore the world around them fostering an understanding of the natural world.
We recognise that children all learn and develop at their own pace and in their own way and we strive to deliver a positive early childhood experience for every child entrusted to our care.
Your child will be supported by our team of professional educators who will understand their individual needs and requirements assisting them to achieve their best and will provide positive early childhood memories for each child.
Each of our educators invest in their own learning through professional development courses, online research and by being part of the early years community.
At Sonas we believe in a child’s community and by allowing the children to build relationships with children of other age groups we can introduce new skills that will support children as they grow and thrive.
