Kayla, Tell us a bit about your career in Education and Care?
I have been working in Education and Care for 17 years. I worked my way up to this Centre Manager role starting off as as trainee. After taking some time after having my first baby I returned to finish my diploma as I knew this was the career for me
What led you to want to work with children?
I have always had a great connection with little people, I love watching them grow, I love teaching them new things. I have always been drawn to this role, right from a young age, starting out caring for my cousins, as well as volunteering and and teaching young children how to play netball, coaching and umpiring most weekends.
What keeps you here?
There is nothing that compares to the love and cuddles I get each day from the children, and I am so lucky to have a great team and strong leaders to work with that support and champion me.
What do you love best about working with children?
Children are so joyful, I love what their happiness brings to us each day. There is nothing quite like a room of beautiful smiling, laughing and cuddly children.
When did you start working at Sonas, and what is it that you love most about working with your team?
I started with Sonas in 2018 full-time as the Centre Manager at Wattle Grove, but I had worked as a casual for a short time when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I really feel that the people at Sonas are like extended family, and that is so comforting. As a leader, I love working with my team, and having the opportunity to watch them grow, reaching their goals, doing the very best for children every day. I love the way my team all encourage one another, we are like a little family.
What do you think are the best attributes that you bring to your role?
New challenges excite me, and everyday there is a new challenge! It brings me so much satisfaction to know that I am helping care for and teach our families most special pride and joy really makes me happy.
Name three words that you describe you.
I think the best words for me are happy, caring and giving. I strive to this every day
What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day is so exhausting, but so rewarding! Waking up in the mornings to my 3 beautiful children getting us all ready for the day school drop off, then heading to Sonas Coolbellup to greet all the wonderful educators and children. I get to spend some time with them all in the morning (as much time as I can eek out) then going to my desk to complete any task I have to do. I love greeting families as they walk in to start the day, its so nice to share that time with them each day. I will always take as much time as everyone needs in each of the rooms, so my team know they are supported by me whenever they need me, but really it’s so I can get more cuddle time with the children.en helping out with the rooms if they need me but also going and giving cuddles to all the children.
What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
Spending time with my family, they keep me super busy, but it’s so worth it.
Finish this sentence. On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me…
Taking my two older children to their weekend sports, best part of the weekend is watching them playing what they love!

Sonas Early Learning & Care is a family owned, child focused & family orientated childcare centre.
Kayla and her team of qualified and caring educators will use their knowledge and experience to create challenging, inspiring and exciting play and learning opportunities for all children.
The team will build genuine and purposeful relationships with children and their families and promote a safe, secure environment that children easily settle into.
The Sonas Coolbellup childcare centre is a new and purpose built facility.
We have designed the centre so all play spaces lead out onto a large nature based outdoor area. This provides unlimited opportunities for your child to venture outdoors exploring and discovering new things from their environment every day.
Each play space provides areas for creativity, experimentation and imagination as well as an opportunity for children to rest and relax.
Through collaboration and scaffolding each child is able to build on the knowledge they already possess. They will use their senses to explore the world around them fostering an understanding of the natural world.
We recognise that children all learn and develop at their own pace and in their own way and we strive to deliver a positive early childhood experience for every child entrusted to our care.
Your child will be supported by our team of professional educators who will understand their individual needs and requirements assisting them to achieve their best and will provide positive early childhood memories for each child.
Each of our educators invest in their own learning through professional development courses, online research and by being part of the early years community.
At Sonas we believe in a child’s community and by allowing the children to build relationships with children of other age groups we can introduce new skills that will support children as they grow and thrive.
