For NAIDOC week, we have been learning about the dreamtime story of the Rainbow Serpent.

The children have loved learning about the giant serpent, and so to increase their engagement with NAIDOC, we have incorporated this into many of our experiences.

This giant serpent we are collaborating on is to showcase our place in the community. We are one part of a whole, yet without us, the whole is incomplete. We have been having these discussions with the children as we add to the snake.

Analysis:  NAIDOC Week is a week of celebrations held across Australia each July. The event celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

Respect for Indigenous Cultures: Learning about NAIDOC Week fosters respect, understanding, and appreciation for the diverse cultures and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It helps young children understand the importance of cultural diversity and promotes inclusivity within the ECEC setting.

The direct purpose of this collaborative project is to bring attention to the concept of NAIDOC and the cultures we have within our country. Secondary learning is for fine motor development, collaboration, and a sense of being and belonging.

This project will be added to our foyer to be celebrated alongside our other big moments.
