In our nest we have been exploring various sensory experiences and experiments.

We started off the week with an ocean themed sensory tray, filled with a variety of sea animals and ingredients to explore our senses. The children used their senses of taste, touch and smell to explore the tray.

The children used their fine motor skills to fill up their pipettes with vinegar and squirt them out until the cocoa and bicarb mixture.

The children were so excited to see the mud begin to bubble. They used the animals to stop on the bubbles to pop them before filling their pipettes up again to create more.

We talked a bit about cause and effect during the activity. We discussed why the mud would bubble after having vinegar poured on to it.

We tried to pour the vinegar onto the oats and hay in our sensory tray but discovered that this wouldn’t create the same chemical reaction as the mud.
