Today the educator encouraged the children to the mat and asked them how they think they could build a city using materials that we have around the centre.
So the children decided that they were going to use the big wooden construction blocks, the small coloured shapes blocks, and would need some cars.
So that is what the children did. Using blocks to build a city offers numerous benefits for children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
Children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they design and build structures. Blocks help children understand spatial relationships, shapes, and sizes. Building with blocks introduces basic math concepts like geometry, measurement, and counting.
Building a city with other children, they learn to work together, share ideas, and communicate effectively. Building a city encourages children to consider different perspectives and needs. Children can take on leadership roles and guide others in the building process. Building blocks help foster creativity, imagination, and self-expression in the children’s play.
Completing a building project boosts children’s confidence and self-esteem and makes the children want to show you their creation and be proud of their accomplishments with them. Children learn to cope with failures and setbacks, especially when things don’t work right and the blocks fall down. Building with blocks enhances hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Children develop strength and coordination in their hands and arms. Blocks help children process visual information and understand the relationship between objects.
