Sonas Woodbridge – Exploring Shapes


At Sonas, Children were provided with a variety of colourful shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, hearts, and stars. along with a shape sorting board and containers.

They were encouraged to explore the shapes, identify them, and place them into the correct spaces or matching containers. The activity aimed to support early mathematical skills, shape recognition, and problem-solving through hands-on learning.

Cognitive Development

  • Children developed early mathematical concepts by recognising and matching shapes.
  • Problem-solving skills were demonstrated as children rotated and adjusted shapes to fit correctly.
  • Sorting and categorising supported logical thinking and understanding of similarities and differences.

Physical Development

  • Fine motor skills were strengthened through grasping, holding, and placing shapes.
  • Hand-eye coordination improved while aligning shapes with the correct spaces.

Language Development

  • Children practiced naming shapes and colours.
  • Conversations with peers and educators supported vocabulary development.

Social Development

  • Children practiced sharing resources and working alongside peers.
  • Observing others supported cooperative learning.
