At Sonas this week, as part of our Pre Kindy-Program the children participated in a number-matching activity.
In this activity the children have to match both the numbers with numbers and the number of shapes with the correct number. The activity encourages children to recognise both the number and calculate the amount on their cups and locally the matching numbers.
By teaching the children how to recognise the numbers, we are developing their fundamental skills that they will need when they move onto their schooling years. Once the children are able to recognise the number, they can then move on recognising the quantities that go with the numbers.
Number recognition is a very important cognitive skill that affects all aspects of our lives, from counting to telling time and even to how much money we have.
