Sonas Karrinyup – Cardboard House

This week, we decided to build a house using cardboard boxes. We used staplers and cello tape to build the house.

We collected all the cardboard pieces available and called the children to participate in it. We had our educators join in this activity too. They loved it; they got fully engaged in assisting us to tape the boxes and staple them; they could not contain their excitement, which broke the house several times, and we had to build it all over again several times, but it was so much fun and engaging for the children’s, and it is effective in helping them cope with their emotions.

After we built the house, we made a door and two windows to make it more fun. Everyone took turns getting in it and enjoying some minutes in our mini cardboard house.

This activity is effective for their fine and gross motors, as they have to be physically engaged while building the house, and it’s also effective for their social, emotional wellbeing and language skills.

They share a lot of emotions, questions, opinions, and curiosity with their friends and teachers, which makes them feel valued and understood. And while we build the house, we use various words such as cardboard, box, tape, stapler, press, stick, big, small, slow, gentle, which are good for their vocabulary and language development.
