Sonas Spearwood – Exploring Aboriginal Culture Through Story and Art

This week, the children had a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture through a hands-on learning experience.

We welcomed a special guest—a proud young Aboriginal man—who shared with us the story and significance of the boomerang. The children were captivated as he explained how the boomerang was traditionally used, not only as a tool but also as a cultural symbol rich with meaning.

Following the storytelling, the children took part in a beautiful collaborative canvas painting experience. They learned about traditional Aboriginal symbols, the meanings behind different animals, and how stories are shared through dot painting and artwork.

It was a meaningful session that sparked curiosity, respect, and connection. We’re proud to be embedding Aboriginal perspectives and voices into our learning journey and fostering a sense of cultural understanding from a young age.

Thank you to our special visitor for sharing your knowledge and culture with us—it was a truly memorable experience for all.
