Sonas Spearwood – Block Build Challenge

The children gathered in the STEM room to participate in a collaborative block-building challenge. Using wooden blocks, they worked together to design and construct structures on the floor. The children added blocks one by one, experimenting with height, balance, and size as they developed their creations.

Throughout the experience, children confidently expressed their ideas and intentions verbally, using phrases such as “more, make it bigger,” “this way,” and “oops, it’s not holding.” While some children were initially hesitant or observed from a distance, they gradually chose to join the activity, demonstrating growing confidence and a sense of belonging within the group.

All children displayed sustained interest, creativity, and engagement. When structures collapsed, moments of disappointment were observed; however, the children showed resilience by quickly rebuilding and adapting their designs. This process highlighted strong teamwork, problem-solving skills, and persistence as they negotiated ideas and supported one another.

The children collaboratively shared ideas, took turns, and worked toward a common goal, strengthening peer relationships and cooperative play.
