This morning, during mat time, we set up a birthday discussion activity.
The goal was to explore our literacy skills, promoting a discussion about what is happening in the picture. We used who, what, when, where, and why conversation prompts to encourage the children to locate items in the picture.
We discussed the different coloured items that we could see, and we counted how many we could see. Once we finished the discussion, we observed the children using the loose dollhouse materials to build their own birthday party.
We added some streamers to the mat, and the children used these to decorate!
They sang happy birthday to their birthday boy and girl and found items around the room to give to them as a present!
