Naidoc week is all about celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and we will continue to reflect on this throughout our curriculum.

This week the children have done a variety of activities to celebrate naidoc week including:

Aboriginal Yoga: This is all about people, animal landforms and plants. As you can see in the photos a group of children are trying to copy some of the aboriginal poses.

Cooking Damper: This is made by Australian Aboriginals for many thousands of years. The children all got to have a turn of pouring, mixing and measuring the ingredients.

Visit from a Police Ranger from Ellenbrook Secondary College: Connor Spoke to the children about the Naidoc celebration at the Police headquarters which included a smoking ceremony, traditional dancing and songs, a Welcome to Country and a traditional sausage sizzle.

Welcome to Country handprints: This week children have created our own Acknowledgement to Country canvas.

Salt dough with seeds: Children got to make salt dough and then decorate it with a variety of seeds.

Aboriginal symbol matching game: This was an activity where the children got to match the aboriginal symbols with the matching symbol.

Drawing Aboriginal symbols in sand: Children were able to use their fingers to draw aboriginal symbols they knew in the sand.

Aboriginal sea animals: Construction of lost Aboriginal pictures.

And many more activities!
