This week, the children of Sonas Bayswater have been looking at storybooks with familiar animals, objects, people, and places.
The children came in their own time and sat with me to look at the pictures. As we went through them, I pointed out the names of some of the things, made the sound (if any), and encouraged excitement by saying phrases such as “wow,” “what is that?” and “ooo, look at this.”
The children have said many words (mostly naming words), turned the pages of the books one at a time, sat and listened attentively as stories were read to them, practiced sharing , and used verbal and non-verbal communication for many purposes.
Learning Objectives: Through this activity, the children are increasing their memory, expanding their vocabulary, building confidence in learning, children are recognising familiar objects, animals, and people, and further developing their fine motor and social skills.
