Upon discovering that one of the children’s developmental milestones is to be able to unwrap small packages I instantly recalled a childhood favourite of mine – Pass the Parcel, making it a sensory experience quickly followed.

Our Party favours were tubes of bubbles and mini slinkie’s hidden in between layers of newspaper, bubble wrap, alfoil, and cellophane.

After rigging the music slightly so that it paused on the child most eager to unwrap the parcel, we set off working on our fine motor finger skills lifting the edges of the masking tape holding it all together.

Some of us were able to easily rip away the newspaper while others found the cellophane a more challenging opponent. We all of course enjoyed the bonus of popping that came with the bubble wrap layer.

Some of the children have now ticked off this milestone but we do have a few that need a bit more practice so stay tuned for more fine motor building and sensory exploration experiences…… crunchier packages and Definity more bubbles.
