This week at Sonas, we explored our senses.
For this activity, we used a variety of different vegetables (zucchini, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and apples). We started off talking about what our favourite vegetables and fruits were.
We then spoke about the different fruits and vegetables we had tried.
The task was to identify the vegetables and fruit, name their colour then feel their texture, and taste them. Many of the children weren’t fans of tasting the vegetables; a few liked broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini, however, they loved the carrot and apple.
This activity is a very effective sensory activity as it comes with different textures and tastes, which helps them develop curiosity and a willingness to try new foods that they would not otherwise try.
It also helps them with language as we use and learn a lot of new words like crunchy, sweet, bitter, dry, wet, tasty, etc.
It’s also good for their social and emotional well-being, as this kind of activity encourages communication amongst each other.
