Recycling and reusing pet spiders
This morning, we decided to recycle and reuse our bottle and plastic cup lids to make pet spiders. We demonstrated an example of drawing a spider on the bottle lid, then we provided everyone with a plastic cup lid and gave them the freedom to be creative and design their own spider and name them.
For this, we used a black marker. To teach them patience, we only used one marker, and everyone had to take turns and share the marker. Everyone was fully engaged and started drawing different patterned spiders and naming them; some named their spider Coco, some Mikey, Mr. Spider, and so on.
After everyone got their spider designs ready, we came into the Steam room to glue the legs. We were using hot glue to complete the glueing part, and the children passed the bottle cups one by one to make legs for their spider. Even for this, they had to take turns, which is a very effective way to instil patience and the idea of sharing.
This activity is a very engaging physical activity that boosts their fine motor skills. It is focused on developing their skills such as creativity, problem solving, respecting nature and the environment, cleaning, and personal.
Therefore, while doing the activity, we talked about what recycling is and how we can reuse things. We talked about the things we can recycle and reuse.
