Today we decided to try a sensory activity.
We used flour, food colour, water, and glitter for this activity.
The main idea behind it was to teach them about the measurements and concepts of scoops, drops, sprinkles, and pouring.
We sat around the table and started our conversations, such as, Do you know we can make many things from flour, like bread, pasta, cake, etc.?, and we carried on about how using it the right way helps us make a variety of items.
Then we talked about measurement concepts; we talked about what happens if we add too much or too little, and children shared their ideas and knowledge.
Then we let each child scoop the flour, put droplets of food colour, pour water slowly from the jug, sprinkle glitter, and all along we encouraged the children to say the words aloud to make them familiar with the words and understand their meanings.
After that, we mixed all the ingredients together, played with the gloop, and explored the texture from the mixing.
This is a very effective sensory activity to enhance their gross motor skills, fine motor skills, spatial skills, and even enhance their mathematical ability, which boosts their cognition.
