This morning, the children visited the Zen Room to begin the day with a calming yoga experience.
Each child was invited to come forward and select a yoga pose they would like to try. The children confidently chose poses and attempted to recreate them, demonstrating developing gross motor coordination, balance, and body awareness.
After everyone had selected a pose, the group gathered on the mats where an educator introduced mindful breathing.
Following a short demonstration, the children practiced taking slow, deep breaths together. Educators facilitated a discussion about how breathing techniques can help us when we feel upset, overwhelmed, or need to calm our bodies.
Experiences such as yoga and mindful breathing support children’s emotional wellbeing and self-regulation by introducing strategies they can use to manage their feelings.
Through guided practice and discussion, children begin to develop an awareness of their emotions and learn practical ways to calm their bodies and minds.
