At Sonas, children engaged in a Food Play Baby Lab, exploring a variety of sensory and exploratory food-based experiences set up in tuff trays:
- Citrus Soup Tuff Tray – Children explored sliced oranges, lemons, and mint in water, squeezing, stirring, and observing floating and sinking. They showed curiosity through smelling, touching, and splashing, and some children attempted to name colours and fruits.
- Coloured Noodles Pasta Tuff Tray – Dyed noodles encouraged children to scoop, pour, and mix colours using their hands and utensils. Children demonstrated concentration as they filled containers and transferred and find hidden food cut-outs.
- Plain Flour Tuff Tray with Utensils – Children used spoons, cups, and sifters to explore the soft texture of flour, creating marks, filling containers, and experimenting with cause and effect.
- Sorting Healthy and Unhealthy Food – Using toy food and picture cards, children placed items into labelled sections, beginning to recognise food types and make simple choices with educator support.
Children explored at their own pace, often returning to favourite trays. Educators supported play by modelling language, ensuring safety, and responding to children’s cues.
