As part of our exploration of the natural world, children participated in a series of “Plant and Grow” activities:

Life Cycle of a Flower – Children learned about the different stages of a flower’s life from seed to bloom through visual aids, and sequencing cards.

Planting Beans – Each child planted a bean seed in a recycled carton with soil, watered it, and placed it in a sunny spot to observe growth over time.

Messy Tray Farm Play – A sensory tray filled with soil, pretend fruit and vegetables, and farm-themed props invited children to explore planting, harvesting, and imaginative role play.

Exploring Flower Parts with Magnifying Glasses – Children used magnifying glasses to closely observe real leaves and flowers, identifying petals, stems, leaves, and roots.

🔍 Analysis and Observation:

Life Cycle of a Flower: Children demonstrated keen interest in understanding how plants grow. Many could sequence the stages independently and some needed assistance.

Planting Beans: Children took ownership and responsibility for caring for their seeds. They eagerly checked on their plants daily, noticing changes and documenting growth.

Messy Tray Farm Play: Through sensory and imaginative play, children engaged in conversations about where food comes from, the role of farmers, and healthy eating. They demonstrated collaboration, creativity, and early science understanding.

Exploring with Magnifying Glasses: This sparked curiosity and encouraged close observation. Children described what they saw in detail, noticing texture, colour, and structure. They compared leaves and flowers and made links between plants in the garden and those in books or stories.
