At Sonas we use water in our learning and play environments. Water is used not only to keep cool on these hot summer days but also as a valuable learning opportunity.
Water provides the children with the opportunities to explore a variety of different learning concepts, including fine and gross motor skills.
Children use a variety of actions, including pouring, scrubbing, squirting, stirring, and squeezing. This in turn leads to an increase in fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Water also promotes children’s curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving skills.
In this activity the children were discussing the colour of the water and the concept of floating and sinking. This then moved the discussion on to who’s been on a boat and what the children did while on the boat and the safety needs while out on a boat.
The many future activities from this one simple activity are far and wide-reaching.
