Just the Beginning: Inside the Preparations at Sonas Morley

Most of what goes into opening an early learning centre happens long before any child walks through the door, and almost none of it is visible from the street.

At the moment the Sonas Morley team are packing and preparing the resources that will fill the new centre. Boxes, checklists, and a great deal of deciding.

Nothing here is bought by the boxful

The part worth explaining is that this is not a bulk order.

Every resource is chosen deliberately, with a view to the spaces it will sit in and what a child will be able to do with it. The aim is to create engaging and welcoming rooms where children can explore, learn and grow, and that is decided item by item rather than by catalogue.

It is slower. It is also the difference between a room that looks finished and a room that works.

The same studios, in a new building

Morley will run the same learning studios families know from our other centres. The Nest for babies. The Zen for quiet and mindfulness. The Family for cooking and family-style mealtimes. The STEAM Studio for science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. The Community for play labs, incursions and our Pathfinders Pre-Kindy program. The Garden for outdoor play.

Each of those needs its own set of materials, which is what all the packing is in aid of.

If you are in Morley, Bayswater, Bedford, Dianella or Noranda

Places at a new centre fill from the register of interest first, well before opening is announced publicly. Registering costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and it is the only way to hear about opening dates and tours before they are generally available.
