    Our Story

Welcome to Sonas Early Learning & Care

Sonas is Old-Irish for "happiness". We welcome you to Sonas Early Learning & Care where your children and family's happiness, joy and wellbeing are our priority.

Sonas Early Learning & Care has been 35 years in the making. It is owned and operated by experienced, knowledgeable qualified Early Childhood specialists who have lovingly combined all the elements of quality child care, early education and before and after school care and embedded them in the very core of the program and service offered to you.

At Sonas we nurture and promote authentic positive childhood experiences inspired by Dr Maria Montessori through play-based learning activities. A setting that is carefully created and lovingly maintained fosters children's interest and enquiry, naturally leading to quality learning experiences.

The Sonas Early Learning & Care team

Starting from $8/day after Child Care Subsidy.

Every Sonas long-day-care fee sits below the government rate cap, so eligible families get the maximum subsidy.

Portrait of Shelley Prendergast, Owner and General Manager of Sonas Early Learning & Care

“To every parent reading this — I know exactly how big this decision feels. In 35+ years of welcoming families through our doors, I’ve seen the same question in every parent’s eyes: will my little one be happy here? That question is the whole reason Sonas exists. We stay small and family-owned on purpose, so your child is known by name, greeted by the same familiar faces every morning, and given the freedom to simply be a child. Come and visit — I’d love for you to feel it for yourself.”

    Common Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does childcare cost at Sonas?
Most Sonas families pay $100–$200/week per child after the Child Care Subsidy. Your exact out-of-pocket depends on your family income, the days of care, and the centre's hourly fee. Use our Child Care Subsidy calculator to estimate your weekly fees.
    What ages do you take?
Sonas accepts children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Long day care covers 0–5 (Nestlings, Swaylings, Explorers, Pathfinders), and our Schoolies program covers school-aged kids 5–12 with before & after school care, vacation care, and a free school pickup bus.
    How do I enrol?
Three steps: (1) Book a free 30-minute tour to meet our team and see your nearest centre. (2) Lodge an enrolment enquiry — we'll guide you through the paperwork. (3) Confirm your start date and days, link Sonas to your myGov for Child Care Subsidy, and you're set.
What's the Child Care Subsidy and how do I get it?
The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is the Australian Government's main payment to help families with child care fees — it can cover up to 90% of fees for most families, and up to 95% for second and younger children. You apply through your myGov account linked to Centrelink. All Sonas centres are CCS approved.
    What's a tour like?
Free, 30 minutes, no obligation. We walk you through the centre, introduce you to your potential key educators, explain our daily routine and programs, and answer any questions about fees, the Child Care Subsidy, transition routines, or specific care needs. After the tour you can lodge an enrolment enquiry online if you'd like to go ahead.
Are all your centres approved for the Child Care Subsidy?
Yes — all Sonas Early Learning & Care centres in Perth (Gosnells, Spearwood, Woodbridge, and Morley once it opens) are approved for the Child Care Subsidy.
