Sonas Ashby – Exploring Fruit

This week we have been looking at healthy eating and discussing the importance of eating nutritious foods so that our bodies can grow big and strong.

We have been speaking about the different foods we eat here at Sonas, discussing what is in them and why they are healthy choices. To extend upon this, we decided to cut some fruit up and let the children explore the different textures, smells tastes and looks.

The children had such a great time feeling and squishing the fruit between their fingers, as they compared the different textures. They noticed apples are hard like pears, but strawberries are soft. We spoke about pressing and squashing the fruit to get juice to come out and noticed that it’s hard to get juice out of apples. During this activity we spoke about the different vitamins and nutrients in the fruit and how they help our bodies.

This activity is a great way to get children excited about the food they are eating. It gets them thinking about their own food choices and promotes healthy eating.
