At Sonas Atwell we celebrated NAIDOC WEEK 2020. The learning experiences provided opportunities to provoke interested, excitement while celebrating the culture and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
We had a visit from a Miss Naidoc girls representative, Taylor-Jane Bellotti, she happily read a dreamtime “Tiddalick the frog,” after moving into a sing and song in the Noongar language, Taylor sang well-loved children recitation in Noongar “Kaat (head), djerdim (shoulders), doonitj (knees), djena (toes).”
The children immediately engaged with excitement and with great enthusiasm and tried to pronounce the Noongar words. Lastly, the children coloured the award-winning pictures for Naidoc 2020, as well as engaged in beautiful, rich and meaningful conversation about Aboriginal Culture.
As we continue to accolade the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and submerge in rich diverse learning experiences and discussion the children are open to develop a foundational understanding, appreciation and respond to diversity with respect, additionally, become aware of fairness.
