It’s all about sensory play for the children here at Sonas Atwell.
Our Children participated in an ice painting experience, and during this experience their conversations were about all the different colours that they could see and create. Some of our children wanted to feel how cold the ice was so they used their sense of taste to explore this. They found it to be really cold.
The younger children enjoyed exploring using their hands and mouths to explore the texture and taste of coloured pasta and the playdough in which we used different herbs to create different smells.
As they touch and explore sensory objects they are beginning to learn about texture, shape and taste. This allows them to distinguish one object from another and it makes the educators realise that the children’s earliest interactions with sensory experiences are creating foundations for future learning.
