Over the last few weeks, Nicky and Beck have been engaging in conversation with Carol, who is the lady who brings the bread for our community pantry.
She volunteers her time and is from Feed It Forward. We asked her how we could help the community more. Beck and Nicky found out that our homeless rate is getting higher in our community. We found out that there are over 200 homeless people, including parents and children.
After looking and reaching out, we discovered a group that we think we could support. This group is community funded and is called FABBQ. They provide food and other necessities to families and singles in the Rockingham area.
Today Beck shared with the children how she went and met some people who needed a little more help than others, and that’s okay!
The children asked many questions and expressed that they have a house and food. Beck explained that yes, most of us do, but if we didn’t, we could seek help from people in the community. Beck then asked Ash to put a clip on, and we all sat down and listened to it.
The video explains homelessness. After the video, Ash and Beck answered all children’s questions and allowed them to express themselves on how they felt. After our mat session and video, we got busy by making up packs of water, snacks, and a piece of fruit that Nicky and Beck will take to the FABBQ this afternoon to share.
The children are all really keen to learn more about helping our community.
