The children of Sonas Bayswater have been focusing on block construction this week.

We placed vehicles, animals, blocks, trees, and road signs in a basket and encouraged the children to take them out and use the table to create their own scene.

Educators used specific language to support and prompt them as they created, such as “Where should we place the animals?” “Can you use the blocks to build a tower?” “Where do you want to put the cars?”.

The children enjoyed having their say in where the objects were placed and were able to use their imagination and sense of creativity to do so. Setting the activity up in this way has given the children a sense of responsibility and ownership, the ability to understand different perspectives, accept and celebrate each other’s similarities and differences, and is further developing their cognitive abilities.

Learning Objectives: Children recognise differences between familiar and unfamiliar people, objects, actions, or events.
