At Sonas, we’re always finding new and exciting ways to explore the world around us – and this week, our children turned pumpkins into erupting volcanoes!
Using a few simple ingredients, we transformed ordinary pumpkins into bubbling, foaming wonders.
How It Worked: Our little scientists hollowed out pumpkins, filled them with baking soda, a touch of dish soap, and food colouring, then poured in vinegar to create a fizzing eruption! The reaction was not only fun to watch but also a great hands-on way to introduce early concepts of cause and effect and chemical reactions.
Learning Through Play: This activity taps into sensory exploration, problem-solving, and curiosity, encouraging children to ask questions and make observations. Plus, it was a wonderful way to embrace the season while sparking their interest in science.
Check out the fantastic video from our pumpkin volcano experiments below, and feel free to try it at home – a great way to extend learning beyond the centre!
Stay tuned for more fun activities from Sonas as we continue to nurture curiosity and learning through play!
