Sonas kindness helps young family devastated by house fire

The Gosnells community has rallied to support a young family who lost everything they owned when their home was decimated by fire.

The family, whose three children are enrolled at Sonas Childcare Gosnells, were left with nothing after the sudden blaze destroyed their home and personal belongings in July.

The team at Sonas Gosnells jumped to action, initially asking families at the centre to donate food items for the family and within days, the pantry and freezer was stocked with essentials.

We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity from Sonas families and staff who went above and beyond to help this beautiful family in their time of need.

Due to the overwhelming generosity from the community through the food drive, the family asked Sonas to put out a call for pre-loved household and child-related items to help furnish their new home.

Within a week, the team had been inundated with donations of clothes, prams, toys, car seats, cots, gift vouchers, nappies and baby items from Sonas families across Perth.

Sonas Gosnells centre manager Crystal Moko said care packages were made for each member of the family and were delivered to their new house the day they moved in.

“We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity from Sonas families and staff who went above and beyond to help this beautiful family in their time of need,” Crystal said.

“It was incredible that within just a few short weeks, we were able to happily report to our donors that the family had sourced everything they needed.”

In addition to this the donations to the family, Sonas Gosnells paid forward 21 gift packages for families in need. Eleven packages containing child essentials were given to Sonas families and 10 care packages were sent to help families at Perth refuges.

Sonas will also donate several care packages made from surplus donations to the community through its community garage sale on November 18.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to each and every family who helped. Without the kindness of the wider Sonas family, we would not have been able to assist as many people as we have,” Crystal said.
