This week the children have all been exploring our edible garden and have noticed our lemon tree has now become filled with yellow lemons.

Yesterday the group all took turns picking some delicious lemons for the families to take home and use in their home lives.

This morning we have extended from our curriculum learning objective of “Child observes and describes observable phenomenon” by talking about the lemons we have collected from the tree as you can see in the snapshots and how we can describe them.

We have further extended on this learning through a cooking experience led by our wonderful cook Anne, in which we have used our lemons to create our afternoon tea meal.

We have sat as a group to discuss what ingredients we have to use, followed the recipe and each had a turn at adding ingredients. Then each child had a turn at mixing it all together to make the batter for our muffins.

We then put these into the muffin trays and placed them in the oven.

The children all really enjoyed munching on these at afternoon tea, describing the sour taste along with the sweetness from the muffin.
