This week in the Family room we have been discussing the celebration of NEW YEARS EVE! and what this means to each of our families, this has come from some family input from our centre.

To extend on this we then showed the children some firework displays from around the world and how they are used in NYE celebrations.

Using PVA glue, black paper to represent the night sky and a variety of coloured cupcake liners to represent fireworks we have created a firework collage.

Each child then took turns using their creativity, fine motor skills and hand eye coordination to create their firework collage. The children attempted to identify some of the colours we have. Using the glue on the paint brush, then selecting the coloured cupcake liner, then sticking this into the glue on the page, look at what we have created.

We have continued to explore Fireworks and NYE celebrations by creating salt fireworks as well. First, we watched a video of fireworks celebrations around the world and how they look.

To further this we have created some pictures of fireworks. Today we have used PVA glue and salt on top to make the base for our fireworks then using a small paint brush we have encouraged the children to drip food colouring drops on top of the salt and pva glue to create our fireworks.

We spoke about what colours would be created as the colours mixed on the page and what these colours were also called.
