Today educator Cherie and the children all gathered around to sing our favourite duck song.

Along with the song, educator Cherie added some provocations. We gathered all the resources that we would need to create an interactive duck pond.

We used river rocks, fake grass, water plants, sand, and water for our duck pond. The children could be heard telling Cherie where to put everything.

Once it was all complete then we gathered around to sing. As the ducks were frightened away the children took turns in hiding the duck before counting how many were left in our pond.

Once we had finished singing the children wanted to play with the ducks. Using the spray bottles, we filled up with coloured water and soap, we then created bubbles to give our duck pond a realistic expectation for the water.

The children enjoyed splashing the ducks around to make more foam. The children communicated to their friends about how the ducks looked different to each other. They also spoke about how the coloured water made different shades and patterns in the water.

When the children had finished playing with the ducks in the pond, they assisted Cherie in cleaning up

“5 little ducks went swimming in a pond, swimming in a pond, swimming in a pond, 5 little ducks went swimming in a pond on a summer’s day, when oh no the big bad wolf came strolling along, strolling along, strolling along, the big bad wolf came strolling along and chased the duck away Quack”
