Incorporating STEM, extension from our holiday walk in the park.

At Sonas this week we continued the preschool children’s interest in fishing.  This  began with the children’s imagination and creative play, where they picked up sticks in the park to fish over a bridge (with no water in it).  We have extended their interest by adding different mediums, such as magnets.  This activity encouraged both fine and gross motor skills, and coordination.  At the end of the fishing line was a magnet that would attach to the little piece of metal on the fish’s bodies.  Once attached, the children quickly reeled in the line, being careful that the fish did not fall off, back into the tuff tray.

As our children learned the power of magnetic force, they communicated both verbally, with discussion and non-verbally with excited smiles and jumping.  Building relationships and friendships with their peers.
