Sonas Wattle Grove – Role-Playing Real-Life Experiences

Children gathered in our STEAM studio to participate in an experience of role-playing real-life jobs.

The children decided that the job of choice was role-playing in a doctor’s office, so we collected some old items such as a keyboard and laptop, a large blackboard, some paper, clipboards, and a notebook.

Our first area we set up was our reception, where we placed two chairs, a laptop and keyboard for our workers, and a notebook for our patients to sign in and book their appointments.

Next was our doctor’s office, which consisted of some paper and a clipboard with two chairs where the children nominated one person to be the doctor and would hold consultations with their patients.

Once the patients had been seen, they then collected a few coins from our money bank, where they walked up and paid the receptionist for their appointment before leaving the doctor’s office.

Children utilised this experience to promote their creative and imaginative thinking, cooperative play, turn taking, decision making, sharing, planning out sequences of events, cognitive skills, and social development.
