This afternoon, the children helped me to set up a nature leaf number activity.

We first went outside and searched for some big leaves that had fallen on the ground. I gave the children instructions to follow: “Can you please collect me 2 leaves?” or “Could you please each collect 1 leaf?”

We counted to make sure we had 10 leaves in our bucket. I then wrote the numbers 1-10 on the leaves and explained that the goal of the activity was to identify the number on the leaf and to place the correct number of pegs onto that leaf.

The children counted the pegs as they placed each one on. The older children supported the younger children to identify the numbers on their leaves, and guided them as they counted how many pegs they had placed on the leaf.
