Child demonstrates awareness that spoken language is composed of smaller segments of sound.
This morning in small groups, children took it in turns, engaging with the light table. We used different shapes and sized objects, drawing around them, to copy the shape, allowing children to match each shape.
Once everyone had a turn at matching the shapes, I wrote the first letter of their name. Children used the small coloured counters, placing them on top of the letter to outline it.
As a group, children and educators spoke about the colours and shapes we can see, and also sounding out the first letter of their name.
