This week educators worked to create a spontaneous sensory expedition for our children. We thought about the different textures that the children could explore, and we decided to create a sensory walk so that all children could experience the textures on their feet.

Using chia seeds we created a mixture that children could squelch under their feet. Educators then turned our stepping stones over and poured some of the mixture into the containers. In the next one we created a goop mixture and alternated between warm and cold water.

As the children participated in this experience, we had discussions about how each new container felt different than the last. The children really seemed to enjoy the goopy mixtures, and all wanted to keep taking turns, with some of our older children supporting the babies to take turns as well.
