At Sonas we have a Family Room.

In our Family Room is where we do our Life skills. The very first day we learn that we place all our belonging into our own special locker with our name and photo so we can identify where our belonging go. Throughout the day the children are encouraged to retrieve and  place any of their items into their lockers.

In the Family Room we have progressive meals where the children are able to come to meals and serve themselves food and drinks. After meals the children are encouraged to empty their cups and scrape their plates before washing them up in the sink.

The children participate in cooking activities in our Family Room. Activities include cooking afternoon tea dishes, cutting fruit and vegetables, exploring different variety of fruits and vegetables.

The children at Sonas are encouraged to take care of their environment, this includes many activities such as wiping tables, sweeping floors and washing windows are just some of our environment activities we do. The Family room also has activities that are in our garden environment. The children collect the scrapes from our meal preparation and after meals we feed the worms and put the others into our compost bin.

The children have also collected seeds from fruits and vegetables and we are currently growing some pumpkin, popcorn and we are now trying to grow an apple tree.
