The children gathered on the mat in the garden for a pre-kindy literacy mat session.

This fortnight’s literacy purpose is to learn to categorise, describing its features and reasons why it belongs to that group.

We began this by sorting pictures of different objects by colour. First, I placed a colour board for red, blue, green, and yellow in the middle of the group. Then, one by one, I showed a picture card and asked what the picture was of and what colour it was. I gave each child a different card and let them place it where they thought it should go.

And as always, we ended our literacy session with high fives and knuckles.
