The children of Sonas Bayswater have been exploring nature with a twist.

We used stepping stones and filled them with different natural materials. We had wood chips, sand, mud, leaves, and branches from the trees in our garden, plus a bit of water to explore.

The children got straight in there and used their senses to explore these materials. Some grabbed and investigated one material at a time; others mixed the materials together to make a little nature soup mixture. I named each of the materials, told the children where we might find them (beach, park, forest, etc.), and described the texture of each one as they explored.

Learning Objectives:

The children are learning to notice and respond to their environment, developing fine and gross motor skills, extending language development, increasing cognitive abilities, and are beginning to show signs of care and respect towards the environment.
