Oil and Water Science Experiment!

What happens when you mix oil, water, and food colouring? Let’s see!

The food colouring is water-based so it mixes with the water. When you add the food colouring to the oil it will not mix.  Once you add the oil to the water, the food-coloured droplets start to drop down since they are heavier than the oil.

Do you know why oil and food colouring doesn’t mix?

Oil is made up of different chemical bonds than water is, which is why the two don’t mix.
