This week we have been exploring different types of sensory play textures with the children.

We explore Goop and then we added bugs for the children to find in the Goop. Then children then went on to explore Slime and how far we could stretch our Slime. We then had spaghetti play and learn about mixing different food dyes to the spaghetti to get it to change colour. Then finally we explore shaving foam and not only was this the feeling but also the smell with a number of children commenting that dad uses this and it smells like daddy.

In the garden we added sand to our rice table then we found some pasta and added this into our tray. The children did lots of scooping and pouring. We then had to use our problem-solving skills because we added some pasta to this table and discovered that it was to big to go through our water meal. The children problem solved and discovered that if you break it up it was fit through the water wheel.

Sensory play offers a number of benefits some of these include curiosity, problem solving skills creativity and encourages children’s learning through exploration.

Sensory play can also help with building nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and motor skills.
