This morning, the children were invited to create a collage using a variety of textured materials.

We have provided the children with white paper, scissors, paintbrushes, glue paste, and a basket of materials containing coloured paper, cardstock, cupcake liners, crepe paper, cellophane, pom poms and pipe cleaners.

This seemed to be a relaxing experience for the children as I observed them slowing down, concentrating, and quietly creating their collages.

The children shared smiles, laughter, and quiet conversation with their peers about their observations, such as which coloured items they were using and what texture they had, as well as some items being harder to adhere to than others, which we discussed could be due to their texture, shape, and dimension.

This morning’s experience focuses on expressing the children’s creativity, developing their sensory processing as well as their hand-eye coordination, scissor cutting skills, and fine motor development.
