A morning of simply asking for chalk has turned into a lesson in story symbols and a full exploration of colours natural and child man through our riverbed.

We used the rocks to recreate the story symbols that we have begun to explore in our play spaces, and it was not long before we began to create story symbols to represent ourselves and when the babies joined us.  They used the mud to create their stories on their bodies.

Soon we noticed the colour running down the riverbed and again our interest peaked as we discussed how bright the chalk colours were but how they disappeared in the brown of the mud at the end.
