Today the children helped prepare their own afternoon tea.

They used some butter knives to help chop watermelon into bite sized pieces. They had such a fun time doing this and were so excited to be able to prepare food for themselves.

Before they were able to use the knife, we spoke about rules we need to follow when using knives. We discussed how there always needs to be an adult around to help, and how we have to be very careful when using them. Some of the children were extremely confident with the knife, and some needed a bit of guidance from an educator.

They were all extremely proud of themselves when they were able to cut the watermelon. This experience is a great way for the children to learn vital self-help skills and take an interest in healthy lifestyles. As they ate their afternoon tea, they excitedly told their peers that they had help prepare it.
