With Australia Day coming up one of our craft experiences were learning about the different wildflowers.

Did you know that Golden Wattle is the official floral emblem of Australia! The first thing we did was jump on the iPad to research what wattle looks like. Can’t do a wattle craft without knowing what Wattle looks like right?

This makes the whole craft more meaningful, and it allows us to take the lead and be involved in decisions about the creative process. We never completely know how a project like this will turn out, but that’s half the fun. We decided to use grass as the wattle leaves. We loved cutting long pieces of the grass.

We then drew twig line shapes onto A4 paper using glue and then stuck our grass leaves onto the paper. Then we ripped small bits of yellow crepe paper from a streamer roll. These small bits were scrunched up into little balls, and then dabbed into some glue, and stuck all around the leaves.

WOW how awesome do our wattle pictures look? We also talked about nature and other wildflowers you can see while out and about!
