The children and educators participated in group sensory exploration using jelly.

The children and educators worked together to plan this experience as they mind-mapped what resources they could use. The children were supported by the educators to make the jelly prior to the experience so that it could set, ready for use.

They were able to add resources of their own choice, such as glitter, food colouring and small animals, prior to placing it in the freezer overnight.

Once it was set, the children then gathered their jelly trays and had turns at de-moulding the jelly and placing it onto the tuff tray so that they could explore the different textures.

The children described the experience in ways such as “the jelly feels cold” and “it turns into water when I squeeze it,” and some children squealed with excitement when it slipped over their hands.

As they were mixing the jelly, the children noted the difference in colours and texture based upon the inside resources of the jelly.
