Children gathered in our steam studio to participate in an experience of letter tracing using flour in our tuff tray.

We began by pouring all of our flour into the tuff tray and spreading it across until you could not see the bottom. With this, we then collected pop sticks to use as our “pencils,” where the children then started tracing.

The older children in our group who attend school assisted our younger children with their letters, such as what the beginning letter of their name looks like and how to draw it.

This experience progressed with the group attempting to identify all the letters of their name with assistance from educators and then trying to write their full name in the flour.

This experience promotes the children’s letter recognition, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, cognitive thinking, and social development.
