As an extension of our pencil drawing experience, we engaged in a mirror painting activity.

The children accompanied Educator Jess to gather all the materials we needed. These included some “big” paper, the paintbrushes and all the different coloured paint that we could find.

They enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror and were very good at explaining their attributes and dispositions. When asked what he could see one child responded with “I am happy!”

The children explored the different colours and how they could use them to paint their own attributes. Another child said, “My lips are red!” and proceeded to paint his lips using the red brush.

The experience also prompted us to discuss our families and what makes us special and unique. One of the children said, “I painted my mummy with red hair, but I have brown hair.”

Some of the children also used the opportunity to recognise and explore their colours. We learnt that red and blue makes purple without any assistance from our educators at all.
